Derbyshire Lose Out to Strong Shropshire Side

MIDLAND COUNTIES YOUTH LEAGUE U18

Sunday 16th November 2014
Derbyshire CFA U18 v Shropshire CFA U18
South Normanton Athletic F.C.

On Sunday 16th November Derbyshire County FA U18 representative squad were in action again, facing up to a strong Shropshire County FA side.

With only 5 minutes on the clock Shropshire took advantage of the slope playing a long ball through the middle, finding Lee Rogers who went past two defenders, before slotting calmly past Derbyshire keeper.

Derbyshire could have drawn level within the next minute had it not been for Adam Attwater’s header, from Stuart Skills cross, falling straight into the Shropshire keepers arms.

Derbyshire were now pushing hard for the equaliser and went close in the 10th minute when Callum Brough’s effort was blocked by the keeper’s outstretched leg.

Shropshire doubled their lead 2 minutes later when Derbyshire keeper, Mark Rathbone, completely miss kicked Shropshire’s long ball, giving Shropshire’s No 9 Adam Davies, the easiest of tasks to tap home.

Derbyshire were unlucky not to pull a goal back in the 42nd minute when George Johnson on the left received a neat pass from Connor Kerry. George rounded the keeper only to be denied a goal when the Shropshire defender cleared off the line.

HT 0-2

Immediately into the second half Derbyshire’s Adam Attwater’s long range effort sailed over the bar. Shropshire were now playing the better football and went close in the 60th minute when Lee Rodgers, with a good run down the right, finished with a powerful drive low at the near post, only to see Mark Rathbone’s brilliant save, turning it round for a corner.

Adam Davies, Shropshire’s No 9 , was causing Derbyshire defenders lots of problems, it was no surprise when he scored his second to put Shropshire 3 - 0 up. In the 67th minute Adam got his hat-trick with a superb drive from the edge of the penalty area, making the Final Score 0 - 4.
