As the game progressed, Matlock continued to find their confidence on the ball. In the 20th minute they had the best chance of the game so far, as Tom Savage turned with the ball and hit the post, which was followed quickly by a shot from Steven Mallinder, who sent his effort just wide of the goal.

With one minute left to go before added time and the half time whistle, Ben Edgson won possession in the opposition’s third after a bad pass from Tintwistle’s right back, Joshua Stevenson, rebounded off of Edgson’s shins. This put him through on goal, in which he shot with his left and found the far-right hand side of the goal, putting Matlock 1-0 up at half time.
