Alvaston Athletic U10's complete fancy-dress sponsored walk for charity

The 8.5 mile walk raised money for Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity.

Derbyshire football club Alvaston Athletic can be very proud of Under-10’s Lions, who completed a sponsored walk around the scenic Carsington Water.

The aptly named Lions showed great courage and perseverance to complete the 8.5-mile walk, which took over 3 hours to complete. Some of the Lions wore fancy dress for the occasion; including The Hulk, Ninjas, and of course plenty of footballers! The coaching team came as the bobsleigh team from the film ‘Cool Runnings’.

The aim of the sponsored walk was to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. The reason being that a young boy called Vinnie, who is a close friend of Alvaston player Archie and parent Reanne, underwent surgery and treatment for his heart condition at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The team wanted to raise it on his behalf for this charity for everything they do, and to help them to be able to continue to provide this to others.

Alvaston Athletic are a Derby based team now playing in the YEL on Sundays and North Derbyshire Youth Football League on Saturdays.

The club have raised over £800 already for this cause and are looking to raise more through their GoFundMe page: https://gofund.me/4f00e2f4

Their charitable work hasn’t stopped there, as just next month on Sunday 18th September 2022, Alvaston Athletic are playing a men’s charity game against Wolfpack CFC, with some of the parents of the U10’s side putting on their boots and taking part!

Below is a group photo taken at the end of the walk and including all that took part.
