County Cup Round-Up: Matlock Town Reserves v Dove Holes

In the DCFA Divisional Cup North Matlock Town FC Reserves entertained their county colleagues, Dove Holes FC in a fantastic first round tie at…

The away team came straight out the blocks with Jack Grindley going close on the 6th and 11th minute as the home defence sat deep in the early exchanges. Matlock's, Matthew Andrews also went close before David Edge hit the crossbar as the home side also pushed for an opening goal.

Matlock's, Bamoussa Cisse was quickly moved into a more attacking role and after a fantastic run the cross bar was struck once again to deny Cisse himself with the opener.

As the first half progressed the home team were pushing hard and Matthew Wilkinson had two shots cleared off the line with another Andrews chance well saved by the away keeper in between.

Just before half time the deadlock was finally broken following some good work from Tom Towndrow on the left which was helped on by Edge before Cisse hit home to the delight of the home support. 1-0

Straight from the restart Dove Holes Striker, Graham Poole hit home to make it evens. 1-1

Half-time 1-1

With some added pressure from the home side on the restart Cisse, again following a great move, scored his second goal of the game. 2-1

The game was still very open and the away team had various attempts including a disallowed goal on the 60th minute for offside.

The home side were looking for a vital 3rd goal and went close through Alex Hewitt and Andrews.

Dove Holes hit the crossbar on the 66th minute before Cisse completed his hat-trick with a low shot following another cross from the influential left back Towndrow. 3-1

At 3-1 up Matlock were expected to control the game and shut out the away side but Dove Holes had other ideas and pushed to take control of the young gladiators. On the 68th minute the tricky Grindley lobbed the home to keeper to make the score 3-2 with 20 minutes to go. 3-2

A few minutes later Richard Forder hit home and the comeback was complete as the home team were hanging on in the final 15 minutes. Dove Holes were looking a dominate force as the home team could not match the levels required.

Late chances fell to Dove Holes through Grindley and Forder but they didn't manage to convert meaning that extra time was looming.

Full-time 3-3

In extra time there was only going to be one winner as Dove Holes took complete control and scored two well taken goals from the active substitute Liam Sircar.

Just before the final whistle of extra time it was Arron Maund who came on and scored his sides 6th goal to complete the rout 6-3 and inflict the largest home defeat of the season for the young Gladiators.

Final score: Matlock Town FC Reserves 3-6 Dove Holes FC
