Despite the sun shining, the game got off to a bit of a slow start, with neither team looking comfortable on the ball and no real chances being created.

The first glimpse of action within the game was when Glossop midfielder Kirsty Ditchfield and Derby right back Hannah Freeman clashed heads as they both committed to head the ball. Ditchfield came out the worse of the two with a minor cut on her head but both players recovered quickly and were adamant to stay on the pitch to help their team come out victorious.

It wasn’t until the 19th minute when we saw the first real chance of the game, when Derby were awarded free kick 20 yards from goal, after Ditchfield was penalised for hand ball. Derby skipper Amber-Leigh Denny put a great ball into the centre of the box which was palmed out by Glossop keeper Helen Wildgoose. The loose ball fell to the foot of Jade Eaglefield who hammered the ball back towards goal but it rebounded off the Glossop defensive line and out to safety.

As the first half of the game progressed, the Ewe Rams, showed real progress in being able to break down Glossop’s defence.

In the 30th minute, Derby County Ladies player Danielle Oxley, was given a golden chance to put Derby into the lead, after a poor back pass by the Glossop defence presented a one on one opportunity. However, Oxley put the ball just wide of the right hand post, keeping them and Glossop on equal terms.

However, it was Emily Gillott who put Derby in the lead after she was left unmarked on the back post. Eaglefield’s cross was unsuccessfully cleared by the Glossop defensive line, which allowed Gillott to pass the ball comfortably into the back of the net to put Derby 1-0 up in the 40th minute.

Eaglefield then continued to show her prowess upfront after a long strike from 30 yards found the top right corner and doubled Derby’s lead just before half time.

HALF TIME: Glossop North End Ladies FC 0 – 2 Derby County Ladies FC

The 15-minute break did not stop Derby’s flow. Eaglefield came close to scoring her second goal but placed it just wide of the left hand post. This was followed up by another shot in which this time she skimmed it off the crossbar, all just within the first three minutes of the second half.

Glossop made their first substitution of the game in the 53rd minute in which Rebecca Austin made way for Molly Etchells.

Eaglefield scored Derby’s third goal of the game after she ran down the left hand side of the pitch, opening up the box, which allowed her to curl the ball into the right hand side of the goal with her right foot.

Glossop was forced to make their second substitution of the match in the 69th minute after Leigh Doyle was helped off the pitch. Cory Hallam came on in her place.

Oxley continued to make her mark on the game for the Ewe Rams after her left footed shot from the right corner of the box curled round the keeper, putting Derby 4-0 up just before the 80th minute.

Derby used up both their substitutions in the 83rd minute in which Hannah Freeman and Emily Gillott came off for Lauren Sherwin and Gabriella Foulkes.

Three minutes before added time Derby Ladies were still pressing high into the oppositions half. Glossop skipper Jen Gray tried to clear a crossed ball by Foulkes but unfortunately it deflected off her knee and curled into the bottom right corner of her own goal, making it 5-0 to Derby.

The last bit of action saw Glossop make their final substitution in which Ditchfield made way for Rebecca Noon.
