Derbyshire FA Celebrates the Official Opening of the Ellen White 3G Pitch
Derbyshire FA is proud to announce the official opening of the Ellen White 3G Pitch at Glossop North End Community Club, a landmark development that will provide a state-of-the-art facility for local footballers of all ages. This new pitch is named in honour of Lioness legend Ellen White, recognising her significant contributions to the sport and her impact as an inspirational role model for aspiring footballers.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Saturday 28th September 2024 with Ellen White in attendance as the guest of honour. The event brought together local dignitaries, representatives from Derbyshire FA, and grassroots football supporters to celebrate the milestone. Attendees also had the opportunity to witness live football sessions, showcasing the versatility and benefits of the new surface.
The Ellen White 3G Pitch represents a significant investment in the future of football in the region, designed to enhance the playing experience for Glossop North End’s community, including grassroots teams, local schools, and recreational users. This cutting-edge surface will provide year-round access, reduce cancellations due to weather, and offer a high-quality, safe environment for players at all levels.
Ellen White, who enjoyed a stellar international career and is one of the country’s most decorated female footballers, expressed her excitement for the opening:
"It is such an honour to be here to see one of the first Lionesses Futures Fund pitches come to life. Something I know the squad is incredibly proud of. This pitch will provide the very best playing experience for local women and girls, ensuring they can play at decent times and on a state-of-the-art pitch."
Derbyshire FA’s Head of Facilities & Partnerships, Liam Rooney added:
"The opening of the Ellen White 3G Pitch marks a major step forward in our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality facilities for football across the county. This development will enable more people to get involved in the game, whether for fun or competitive play, and we’re delighted to work alongside the Football Foundation and Glossop North End Community Club in making this a reality."
The new facility forms part of Derbyshire FA’s ongoing efforts to grow participation and improve football infrastructure across the region. Glossop North End Community Club is already a hub for grassroots football, and this latest addition will further cement its reputation as a key destination for developing talent and fostering a love for the game.
