U16 Derbyshire County Schools FA Team Through to Inter County Trophy Final

Match report by Derbyshire YLMT Member and University of Derby student, Holly Percival:

Wednesday night saw the U16 Derbyshire Schools…

With Derbyshire being the first team on the pitch they seemed the more confident team of the two which was proved with their attacking style of play.

It took them just seven minutes to score, after a loose ball from a corner fell to the feet of Rosie Hunt who smashed the ball into the back of the net.

While Worcestershire struggled to find their stride, Derbyshire doubled their lead just eight minutes later after Lilly Lymn comfortably put the ball into the back of the net.

The second quick goal clearly showed Worcestershire how hard they were going to have to work in order to possibly take the game to extra time or come back to win.

The visitors retaliated with two quick consecutive goals within six minutes of each other, levelling the score with just 15 minutes left of the 40 minute half.

Two minutes before the half time whistle Derbyshire forward Naomi Lawrence put her team back in the lead. Her cross from the right hand side of the box was unfortunately tipped over the line by the goalkeeper and this made the score 3-2.

Manager Bryan Bennett must have given a very motivating team talk as his Derbyshire team came out fighting once again and scored a fourth goal just five minutes into the second half. Isobel Ford received the ball and lobbed the keeper from 20 yards.

Opponents Worcestershire continued to fight and scored their third of the game with just seven minutes left but were unable to find a late equaliser which would have taken it to extra time.

Derbyshire County Schools' U16 will play fellow semi-finalists Sussex County Schools' FA in the final of the Inter County Trophy with details of the final to be confirmed soon.
