Fantastic new facilities open in Melbourne

The brand new facilities, which will provide better sports provision for the area, were unveiled on Sunday 11th September at Melbourne Sports Park.

The Melbourne Sports Park now offers excellent facilities for a range of sports, including football, rugby, cricket and tennis. The opening launch event saw an array of coach demonstrations and playing opportunities across all sports, along with an official ribbon cutting.

Derbyshire County FA and The FA has been involved in the development of the project with the Melbourne Sporting Partnership and South Derbyshire District Council for the past 4 years. Working with these partners; the key grassroots football clubs in Melbourne and other National Governing Bodies of Sport, led to a successful Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund application for £600,000.

Whilst the site and facilities will benefit a variety of sports, this investment has specifically contributed towards the changing rooms within the new pavilion, natural grass pitch improvement works and a new state of the art 3G Football Turf Pitch.

DCFA’s Head of Strategy & Facilities, Keely Brown, said: "It is fantastic to see such phenomenal facilities provided in Melbourne and the project is a superb example of partnership working at its best.

"We are delighted with the investment and look forward to continuing to support football development in Melbourne. We would like to thank all partners involved in the project and The Premier League & The FA for their superb funding support into another Derbyshire project."
