Derbyshire Supports the Rainbow Laces Campaign
Derbyshire FA
The Rainbow Laces campaign is a way for everyone involved in sport to show their support for LGBT equality and inclusivity.
The campaign was supported by clubs and sports centres around the county. Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia remain a problem at all levels of sport, with 43% of Britain’s LGBT individuals believing that public sporting events aren’t a welcoming space.
The campaign ran from 17th November to 2nd December with players, clubs, referees and officials encouraged to wear the Rainbow Laces on their football boots to highlight the importance of making football inclusive for everyone
The following Derbyshire clubs and organisations are supported the campaign:
• Alfreton Town
• Matlock Town
• Belper Leisure Centre
• Chesterfield Junior Blues
• Chesterfield Ladies Development
• Chesterfield Ladies First
• Derby County
• Derby Rovers
• Derbyshire County FA staff
• Derbyshire County FA tutors
• Field Lane
• Kilburn Youth & Vets FC
• Mickleover Sports
• The Oaklands
• Willows Sports Centre
Angie Harper, Football Development Officer said “ It’s fantastic that more clubs this year from the county and across the country have supported the campaign which highlights the importance of supporting LGBT equality and inclusivity within the game”.
