Local Mascots Feature in Cup Final

Derbyshire FA
Two FA Charter Standard Clubs played a key role in the Senior Challenge Cup Final

Alfreton Town Juniors and GFC Alfreton, who are two of Derbyshire’s FA Charter Standard Clubs took their U12 teams to watch Alfreton Town FC v Chesterfield FC play in the Derbyshire County FA Senior Challenge Cup Final on Tuesday 24th April, which was held at The Impact Arena, Alfreton Town FC.

Alfreton Town U12’s and GFC Alfreton U12’s were the official mascots, ball boys and girls for the Final. Prior to kick off both teams formed a guard of honour to welcome Alfreton Town FC and Chesterfield FC players onto the pitch.

During half-time, both sets of players were invited onto the pitch to take part in a penalty shootout.

Alfreton Town Juniors find themselves at an exciting point in their history, and they gave us this update regarding the Clubs’ future:

After discussion with The David Nieper Academy in Alfreton we are pleased to announce that the Juniors will be sited at The David Nieper Academy. When developments are finished the Juniors will have the use of 5 various sized pitches from mini-soccer to full size 11- a-side. The indoor facilities are already being utilised by our younger teams.

Furthermore development is planned and funding being sought for the potential siting of a full size 3G pitch for use by the Juniors, the Academy itself, local schools, other sports clubs and the people of Alfreton Town, making the Academy a fantastic central venue for the Community as a whole.

The Juniors themselves are flourishing, attracting more volunteers every season and are keen to build on our very successful ‘5 Year Programme’ which has seen the Club grow from just 4, to 13 squads, ranging from U6’s development through to the U18’s for the new season, which we are extremely proud of.

Thanks to the Committee, Coaches and the Derbyshire FA for their support during this period, without volunteers this simply can’t happen, so please get in touch and get involved if you want to help the boys and girls enjoy ‘the beautiful game’!

GFC Alfreton U12s, currently play in the Derbyshire Girls & Ladies League, on Saturday Mornings. GFC Alfreton is a FA Charter Standard Club, who was formed in 1995, to give girls and ladies of any age and ability, the opportunity to play Association Football, starting from the age of 5.

This will be GFC Alfreton last season in their current set up, because from June 2018, GFC Alfreton are part of the merger between ADASC, Leabrooks Juniors and GFC Alfreton, to become Sleetmoor United, who will use the facilities at the Sleetmoor Lane, home of ADASC.

This gives Sleetmoor United FC a platform to provide coaching and facilities for families to play Football from Juniors through to Adults.

They are looking for unattached players at all age groups, male and female for next season, and if you would like any further information about their project, please click here.

Derbyshire County FA would like to say a huge thank you to both Alfreton Town Juniors 12’s & GFC Alfreton U12’s for playing an important role supporting the Derbyshire County FA Senior Challenge Cup 2017-18 Final.

Both clubs do a fantastic job providing opportunities for the local community to participate in football. Derbyshire County FA would also like to wish both teams all the best for the rest of the season and also for the future.
