New partnership to help local clubs access extra funding

The Derbyshire FA have partnered with online donation service ‘GiveToLocal’ to help connect clubs to local donors and sponsors.

‘GiveToLocal’ look to rejuvenate local communities by connecting grassroots sports clubs to businesses and people who want to help raise funding.

Through their user-friendly technology, individuals have access to benefits and incentives from local businesses, creating a true sense of shared action and community spirit.

Donors and sponsors can support their clubs by donating from as little as £3 per month, enabling everyone to play their part.

Having launched in December 2019, GiveToLocal has already managed to secure the support of a number of high-profile Premier League and Championship footballers.

Alongside backing from legendary England forward Les Ferdinand, Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum, Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend and Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson have all backed the organisation’s efforts to put £10m a year into community sport.

Ryan Haynes, Football Operations Manager at the Derbyshire FA, said: “It’s important that we help clubs get back to playing football in a fun and safe environment to allow participants get the health and wellbeing benefits the beautiful game offers.

“Everyone across grassroots football has been effected by COVID-19, but along with the game itself, club fundraising has also been hit really badly.

“Clubs have been unable to host their usual summer tournaments which typically generate a lot of income for them.

“This means that clubs will have to look at other ways in which they can raise funds, and GiveToLocal offers these clubs the perfect way for them to do so.

“GiveToLocal is a simple and easy way for proactive clubs to gain a consistent income by working with local people for the benefit of the community.

“Grassroots football plays a huge part in so many people’s lives, and to many people, it’s more than just a game.

“Football offers a great support network that brings joy to so many people, and one of the few positives to come from COVID-19 is how well communities have come together to try and work through the difficult times.

“It’s important for clubs to work with the local people and local businesses within their area to build connections and relationships, because this will then improve the quality of experience for all members of their club.”

Colin Stromsoy, Director of Strategic Partnerships at GiveToLocal, added: “We have had fantastic discussions with Ryan and the team at the Derbyshire FA and we are absolutely delighted to have entered into a partnership with them.

Clubs and communities in Derbyshire have had an exceptionally tough time and we are determined to ensure GiveToLocal has a sustained and positive impact for clubs here as it has elsewhere.”
