NEW DCFA

New non-executive directors appointed to DCFA board

Two new non-executive directors have been appointed to the Derbyshire FA board following an extensive recruitment and interview programme.

Leoni Waghorn and Andrew Brewin have been appointed as non-executive equality director and non-executive finance director, respectively, following the business’ recent board review.

In the DCFA Annual General Meeting in October 2020, the membership approved the changes to articles which fall in line with the FA Code of Governance, leading to a review of the matrix of skills by all the directors.

As a result, the Derbyshrie FA ran an extensive recruitment programme earlier this year and appointed the two new non-executive directors following successful interviews.

Ms Waghorn, who has a background in law and working with sports foundations, will play a key role in the delivery of the Derbyshire FA’s recently reviewed equality policy.

“I am delighted to have been appointed in the newly established role of non-executive equality director at the Derbyshire FA”, she said.

“I am very much looking forward to reaching out and connecting with the grassroots football community and ensuring that all members within the county feel represented and heard.

“Ensuring groups feel valued, supported, and safe whilst playing a sport they love, is of key importance and priority.

“Transparency, equality, and fairness are at the forefront of my objectives going forward in order to retain and develop a diverse and inclusive DCFA.”

New non-executive financial director Andrew Brewin is a qualified accountant with nearly 20 years of finance experience, including 10 years in senior executive positions, and will help to ensure the DCFA continue their development.

“I am delighted to be appointed the role and look forward to developing the financial strategy over the coming years.

“I will be looking to engage with all levels of the association, drive financial accountability, and help support the current board of directors in these changing times.

“The key will be to push these objectives along with the core FA objectives of making sure football is enjoyed at all levels in a safe and inclusive environment”, said Mr Brewin.

Ricky Stevenson, Chief Executive Officer at the Derbyshire FA, expressed his excitement about the new appointments, saying: “I’m really looking forward to working with Andrew and Leoni, they bring a wealth of experience and expertise to our board and will support us in the delivery of our strategy over the next few years.”
