Match Report: Alfreton Town 6-1 Ilkeston Town

Alfreton advance to the next round of the Senior Challenge Cup.

A double from Tom Denton, and goals from Hobson, McGrath, Butterfield and Southwell send Alfreton into the Quarter-Final.

Ilkeston Town looked threatening in the early stages, but it was Alfreton who took the lead on 34 minutes, after a thunderous long-range strike from Bailey Hobson.

Five minutes before the break, Ilkeston found a leveller through pacey winger Tyree Wilson, who finished cleanly after a slick counterattack.

On 44 minutes, the home side regained the lead as target-man Tom Denton poked the ball home from a freekick.

Much like the first half, Ilkeston started the second strongly, going close with a few chances.

On 59 minutes, Jay McGrath extended Alfreton’s lead, volleying home from a corner.

Just two minutes later, Alfreton scored their fourth as midfield powerhouse Milan Butterfield finishes first time from outside of the box.

On 64 minutes, Alfreton scored yet another as Dayle Southwell gets on the end of it after a tangle during a corner, making it 5-1 to The Reds.

In the 80th minute, Denton doubled his tally, shaking off the defender and powered a header into the goal.

With this emphatic 6-1 win, Alfreton Town progress to the Quarter Final of the Cawarden Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup.
