Derbyshire County FA are saddened to hear of the passing of their President Dave Heron. Dave passed away peacefully on 15th March 2022, after a short illness.

On the 16th March 2022, at a meeting of the Derbyshire County FA Council, the Chair {Frank McArdle) opened the meeting by asking members to take a moments silence, in respect of the passing of the County President.

Dave was first appointed to the Derbyshire FA Council in 1987 serving as a Disciplinary Chairman, Youth Representative and member of the Referees committee. In 2006 he was appointed Chairman of the Association, he served as Chair until 2018 when he was awarded a Life Membership of the Association and presented with the Long Service Award. 2018 was also the year he became President of the County FA. He also qualified as a Referee in 1987 and in 1995 became a Referee Instructor supporting many Derbyshire officials.

Frank McArdle spoke at the council meeting about the President's history as a member of the County FA and the time he dedicated to supporting grassroots football across Derbyshire. He spoke about how Dave would always have a joke for every occasion and always had an ear for someone. The Chair spoke of his great respect for Dave.

The Chair paused for a moment and finished by saying "Rest in peace and thanks for everything you've done".

Ian Wright (Director of DCFA) commented that Dave was a great man with a fantastic reputation within the community.

Alan Smith (Life Vice -President of DCFA) finished the meeting by sharing memories of his involvement in football with the President who he will deeply miss. He described Dave as a fantastic football ambassador for Derbyshire.
