Heanor Town welcomed Sandiacre Town to the Town Ground in the second round of the Derbyshire FA Challenge Cup.
Within the first 15 minutes, play was even, with both sides getting on the ball and looking to score the opener. On 17 minutes, Sandiacre had a great chance to do just that, as they were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box. Josh Mundell stepped up for the visitors, but his effort was saved by Adam Revuelta in the Heanor goal to keep the tie scoreless.
Sandiacre rued the penalty miss as on the half-hour mark, Heanor broke the deadlock. Explosive attacker Lewis Rourke burst onto the scene and slotted it into the net. 1-0 to Heanor.
Heanor and Rourke doubled their money just five minutes later, with a ferocious volley making it 2-0. Rourke completed his hattrick before half-time, meaning Heanor led 3-0 at the break.
The home side were equally relentless in the second half, with Kyle Daley curling a fantastic left-footed freekick into the net to make it four. Daley scored another on 54 minutes, finishing a fine team move.
Rourke continued his soaring first-half showing and unbelievably scored his fourth and fifth goals of the night, making it 7-0 to Heanor. Despite the best efforts of Knowles in the Sandiacre net, who produced a string of fine saves, on 77 minutes, Korzeniewski scored Heanor’s eighth and final goal and the game finished Heanor Town 8-0 Sandiacre Town.
This result means Heanor Town advance to the Third Round of the Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup. The draw for Round Three will take place on Thursday 17th November 2022.
