Shirebrook Soldiers win Junior Cup North with a late winner against Tintwistle Athletic Reserves

Tintwistle Athletic Reserves 1-2 Shirebrook Soldiers

The Derbyshire County Cups saw more late drama unfold as a 91st minute winner crowns Shirebrook Soldiers the 2022/23 Derbyshire Junior Cup North Winners.

The final of the Derbyshire Junior Cup North, sponsored by Cawarden, was held at Staveley Miners Welfare FC in front of a crowd of 206.

After just 40 seconds into the game, Tintwistle were awarded a penalty for a foul. Alexander Elliott stepped up and smashed his shot against the post before the keeper saved the rebound!

Tintwistle were made to rue that miss just minutes later, as four minutes in, Shirebrook’s Robbie Savage broke away on goal and confidently chipped the goalkeeper to open the scoring.

The score remained 1-0 to Shirebrook for the entirety of the first half, with the Soldiers going in at half-time leading.

60 minutes in, Tintwistle were awarded another penalty. This time Brandon Wood stepped up and slotted home to level the score.

The game looked set to be heading to penalties, but dynamic Shirebrook forward Savage received the ball and fired a vicious strike into the far post in the 91st minute.

The full-time whistle blew soon after, with Shirebrook Soldiers lifting the cup and Robbie Savage receiving the Player of the Match award.

Congratulations to 2022/23’s Derbyshire Junior Cup North Champions, Shirebrook Soldiers!
