Frank McArdle, Derbyshire FA Chairman, made an MBE in King's Birthday Honours

For remarkable contributions to local government

Frank McArdle, former Chief Executive of South Derbyshire District Council (SDDC) and current Chairman of Derbyshire FA, has been honoured for his remarkable contributions to local government. A dedicated local government officer, McArdle has spent his entire 52-year career in the sector, including 47 years at SDDC, where he served as Chief Executive for 23 years.

Mr McArdle is a strong advocate of partnership working, fostering collaborations with developers, businesses, and housing associations, and seeking innovative solutions beyond traditional council boundaries. His approach significantly contributed to the district's rapid population growth, making it one of the fastest growing areas outside the South East.

As returning officer, Mr McArdle frequently visited local schools to educate students about the election process and provided work shadowing opportunities to inspire young people's interest in local democracy. He also mentored and coached emerging leaders in local government through the Society Of Local Authority Chief Executives.

An avid football fan, Mr McArdle has significantly supported the local game over the years. He became a patron to Derbyshire FA in 2000 and was named Chairman of the Association in 2018. He leads the Board of Directors and manages the County FA's affairs, continuing to drive progress as Derbyshire FA prepares for its new four-year strategy starting in July 2024. Last year, he was recognised as a Life Member of Derbyshire FA for his longstanding commitment to the organisation.

Mr McArdle is one of 1,000+ across the UK that have received honours. The focus of this years list is individuals who have had an immeasurable impact on the lives of people and communities, and he certainly fits the bill. Everyone at Derbyshire FA would like to say thank you to Mr McArdle for his contributions to our local area, and congratulations for the prestigious honour of receiving an MBE.
