Club Support for Adult Football

The football season is now underway and Derbyshire County FA are committed to working closely with our adult leagues to sustain and increase…
Across the UK, the traditional 11-aside adult male game is in decline and with changing lifestyles and weekend commitments, the number of teams playing football in Derbyshire also reflects the national trend.

Derbyshire County FA and the adult leagues in the county are implementing the ‘Club Support System’ to support the adult teams and keep as many people playing football as possible. “We don’t want to see teams folding, especially if it could have been prevented through support mechanisms that are in place.

“We’re working closely with our leagues and have effective strategies in place to be able to support football clubs, so we urge any clubs that are struggling to get in touch with their league management committee or Derbyshire County FA to ask for help.”

“We understand the challenges that club volunteers face and if we’re made aware of the issues and difficulties, we can do our best to support the club” said Lauren Mellor, Football Development Officer for adult participation.

The Club Support document can be accessed here.

The League secretary of one of the Derbyshire Adult Leagues also highlights the importance of asking for help if it is needed: “It is becoming ever difficult to run a club at grassroots level, and I would like to remind you that there is support out there should you require it regardless of what issues you are experiencing - please help us to help you by making the League aware of any problems you are facing.”

“The League Management Committee is always available to talk to, however there is also a wider network of support available from your local county FA. I have attached a help sheet produced by the Derbyshire FA to highlight some of the support on offer. Please feel free to contact me, any committee member or Lauren Mellor at the DCFA to discuss any potential difficulties or challenges and I am sure between us we can assist in keeping as many clubs and players involved in the grassroots game!”

If any clubs do require support, please contact your league management committee or Derbyshire County FA:
